Shiprock, a prominent peak located northwestern New Mexico, is framed by cirrus clouds at sunrise. The peak rises 1,583 ft (482 m) above the surrounding landscape and has a total elevation of 7,177 ft (2,188 m). The peak is located on Navajo tribal land and is sacred to them. The Navajo name for the peak is Tsé Bitʼaʼí, which means "rock with wings." Tribal legend says a great bird brought the Navajo people from the North to the present-day Four Corners area.
